Here's a round-up of teaser items from publishers:
▪️ In his 27 August 2026 newsletter, Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games marvelled that Elizabeth Hargrave's Wingspan Pocket already has more than one thousand ratings on BoardGameGeek after being on the market for only six weeks. He listed attributes that might have contributed to the game being played so much, so quickly, then closed with this line: "...I'm looking to learn from this experience for our other games (including Wyrmspan Pocket, which Connie [Vogelmann] is actively working on)."
If the dragons in Wyrmspan are too large for you, teensy dragons are on their way!
▪️The year 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Klaus-Jürgen Wrede's tile-laying game Carcassonne — well, the 25th anniversary of it winning Spiel des Jahres, so publisher Hans im Glück is touting "a limited-edition anniversary version" for release in October 2026.
Given the blurry image, I presume this will be the Pixel Carcassonne game that Italian licensee Giochi Uniti revealed in May 2026.

▪️ On 21 August 2026, French website Philibert posted pics from Sommet des jeux 2026 (Games Summit 2026), and among the games pictured is Concept Stories, which is labeled "Work in Progress". I got to sample this item at Origins Game Fair 2026, but pics weren't allowed at that time, so I'll share Philibert's pic now:

This work by Alain Rivollet, Gaëtan Beaujannot, and Repos Production features gameplay that will be familiar to anyone who has played 2013's Concept. In this 20 Questions-style game, you're trying to get someone to guess a secret concept by placing tokens on various spots of a game board that features colors, shapes, body parts, emotions, substances, directions, categories, and more. You've giving clues to lead guessers to the right answer.
Concept Stories transforms gameplay into a tiered challenge. You want to get players to guess something, then you want them to have that concept in mind and lead them to guess a concept related to that first something, then you'll build on that to have them guess something else, etc. Essentially, you are getting them to tell themselves a story by leading them through it bit by bit.
Interesting to see so many game-adjacent creations along these lines coming to market, similar to Un Curieux Jardin and Le Petit Théâtre that I wrote about on 27 August 2026. They're not so much games as game-like activities in that you don't really care about scoring or winning, but just doing stuff with others and reaching some conclusive state.
▪️ I know that I just wrote about Oink Games' late 2026 line-up, but in case you're not having Oink overload, I thought I'd mention that two titles from Oink — Kei Kajino's SCOUT and Paul Schulz' DroPolter — have been released in the U.S. in larger, yet cheaper editions exclusively at Walmart. [SCOUT and DroPolter] [Disclosure: Oink Games is an advertiser on Board Game Beat.]
Congrats to Oink for landing those placements! Overnight mainstream success after sixteen years of hard work...
