On April 13, 2026, video game publisher Handelabra Games announced that it had purchased both Sentinel Comics — the basis for the Sentinels of the Multiverse game line from Christopher Badell, Paul Bender, and Adam Rebottaro — and the "Greater Than Games" brand.
Handelabra Games formed in 2013 and launched with a digital adaptation of Sentinels of the Multiverse in 2014. Multiple Sentinels expansions received digital versions over the next few years, and Handelabra Games also created digital versions of the Greater Than Games titles Bottom of the 9th in 2017 and Spirit Island in 2020.
In November 2024, Handelabra Games ran a crowdfunding campaign for Sentinels of the Multiverse 2, a digital adaptation of Sentinels of the Multiverse: Definitive Edition, which Greater Than Games had published in 2022.
When Greater Than Games' parent company Flat River Group put GTG in hibernation in April 2025 following President Donald Trump's announcement of tariffs on most imports to the United States — tariffs that would be paid by the individuals and companies importing those goods — Handelabra Games expressed support for the GTG team members, noting that:
On a personal note, Handelabra Games would not be here if it weren't for Christopher, Paul, and Adam from Greater Than Games, who contacted us way back in 2012 [when the company was then known as Handelabra Studio] to say "you said you wanted to make Sentinels digital? Well now you can!" Over these last 13 years, we have grown together alongside the Greater Than Games team, and seeing them unceremoniously ended like this is really quite tragic.
Thank you Greater Than Games for letting us play in your Multiverse all these years. We promise to be good stewards of your world, in the hopes you can one day return to ours.
In June 2025, Handelabra announced that release of Sentinels of the Multiverse 2 had been delayed from 2025 to 2026 since it was unsure what the future of the game line might be, but with the purchase of Sentinel Comics, Handelabra is now in control of the game line that it is adapting, so it can be confident about that game's future. (Handelabra has clarified that while it purchased the Greater Than Games brand, it received only Sentinel Comics related properties, leaving the fate of R. Eric Reuss' Spirit Island and other GTG titles in limbo for now.)
As for the future of the Sentinels of the Multiverse tabletop game line, Jaye Handel, President and CEO of Handelabra Games, included the following in their announcement:
Is Handelabra becoming a tabletop publisher?
Handelabra is a Digital Tabletop company. We make Digital Tabletop games. We primarily wanted to buy Sentinel Comics to protect that business, but these are tabletop games to start, and we are not interested in becoming a tabletop publisher. But lucky for us, we know a lot of good people who are good at exactly that type of business...
The Future
April 28th, 2026 is National Super Hero Day in the U.S. For the entire month of April, we'll be celebrating the future of Sentinel Comics, and by the end of the month – National Super Hero Day – you will have the answers to so many of the questions we know you have about the next movement in the symphony that is "Greater Than Games". For your ongoing support and excitement, we remain eternally grateful. We just ask for a little more patience over the coming weeks as we have lots to share, and we can't wait to embark on the next phase of this journey with you!
