On May 19, 2026, the Spiel des Jahres jury announced the nominees for the three awards that it gives out annually: Spiel des Jahres (German for "Game of the year"), Kennerspiel des Jahres, and Kinderspiel des Jahres.
Six weeks have passed since those nominations were announced, and if you hadn't played the nominees previously, perhaps you've had a chance to do so in the meantime. With the winners scheduled to be revealed on Sunday, July 12, 2026, I thought I'd survey Beat readers to see which nominees you've played, which nominee you think will win in each category, and which game you'd recommend over the nominees in each category.
I realize the latter item will likely lead to suggestions far outside the SdJ wheelhouse described in this article, but I thought I'd ask just the same.
