Ghost Galaxy Prepares New Edition of Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game

U.S. publisher Ghost Galaxy has come to an agreement with Universal Consumer Products & Games (part of NBCUniversal) and Fantasy Flight Games to publish a new edition of Corey Konieczka's Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game.

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game debuted from FFG in 2008, adapting the Battlestar Galactica TV series that ran on the Sci-Fi Channel from 2003 to 2009 for tabletop play. Here is three-fifths of the press release announcing this news:

Ghost Galaxy has been working on an updated design of the classic game, which will be launched via crowdfunding in early 2027.

"I had the pleasure to oversee the publication of this phenomenal board game during its first lease on life", said Christian T. Petersen, CEO of Ghost Galaxy (and former CEO and founder of Fantasy Flight Games). "We're having a lot of fun returning to the great characters and story of Battlestar Galactica, and we're working hard to ensure that our new edition will make a great game design even better!"

The press release does not mention whether BSG's three expansions — Pegasus, Exodus, and Daybreak — will also return to print, whether as part of the crowdfunding campaign or elsewhen. I've ask Ghost Galaxy about their status and will update this post if I receive a response.

Ghost Galaxy brought Nerdlab Games' Mindbug: First Contact to the North American market in 2023, and it's continued to release new standalone games, expansions, and accessories for this two-player fighting card game from Skaff Elias, Richard Garfield, Marvin Hegen, and Christian Kudahl to this day.

At SPIEL Essen 26, German publisher Nerdlab Games will debut two new titles: The Beat: Rockstars of the Galaxy and Final Titan, with this latter title being a board game from Richard Garfield and Christian Kudahl in which 1-5 players draft three titans, then have them face off in head-to-head dice duels until only a single titan — one might even say, the "final titan" — remains.

While Nerdlab Games will have Final Titan available in both German- and English-language editions at SPIEL Essen 26, Ghost Galaxy notes that its edition will release in late November 2027. (Nerdlab's crowdfunding campaign update from 2 October 2026 suggests that games for backers will reach North America in November 2026, so I'm double-checking with Ghost Galaxy to see whether 2027 should be 2026 or whether it will have a separate edition at retail one year from now.)
