Yell Words, Draw Pictures, Set Up Dates, and Yell Some More

Making plans for the weekend? Check out this septet of party games.

Front covers for the games Pic-Together, Perfectly Imperfect, and Out of Words — all of which feature the titles prominently on a boldly colored background

Every so often, I feel like challenging myself to describe games as succinctly as possible — and with party games, it's usually possible to get across the essence of a design in a sentence or three. Let's see how well I do with this batch:

▪️ Danielle Reynolds's Perfectly Imperfect, due out in April 2026 from Randolph, puts a dating spin on the "match the judge" genre. Each round, three dating profiles are revealed, and you place "Perfect", "Meh", and "Nope" cards face-down next to them, scoring points based on how well you match the dater's preferences that round.

▪️ Pic'Together is a 2022 game from Les Galons Magiques and French publisheiar Letheia, but it's getting an English-language edition courtesy of Hachette Boardgames UK, so it's still new, yes? Each round, 2-6 players collectively create a drawing by sketching on 1-3 jigsaw puzzle pieces, then assembling those pieces, with the remaining player having sixty seconds to make as many guesses as they wish. Two card decks feature objects and locations, and as you progress in the game, you go from one card to two and increase the difficulty of the cards.

▪️ Scott Brady and Mike Davis's co-operative game Out of Words debuted in German in October 2025 from Queen Games, and an English-language version debuts in 2026. Using a 5x5 grid of letters, the cluegiver marks a letter and gives a clue starting with this letter, then the other players can guess one word. If they guess wrong, mark another letter and give another clue. All used letters are removed, with a new letter being added to the grid only if the team guessed after one clue. Try to guess as many words as possible before the letters run out.

▪️ Another Queen Games title in the same German-to-English situation is Fast Out, by Dirk Roos. Using cards that show a category on one side and a letter on the other, shuffle together cards from six categories, then split the cards into a deck for each player with the letter-side up. Reveal a random category card; whoever first yells a term in this category that starts with the letter on their deck discards their card category-side up, giving everyone a new target to match. Ditch your cards first to win.

▪️ The Cast List is a late 2025 release from Benjamin Bateman, Michael Grothe, Alex Kessler, Erich Weidetz, and Kess Co that challenges players to name actors. If you're giving clues, read two of the five movie titles on a card, after which the player or team guesses the actor in common; after thirty seconds, reveal another title. The more titles you need, the less you score.

▪️ Another late 2025 release — and like the title above, one I saw at Toy Fair NY amongst many other such games — is Party Mouth, a Cards Against Humanity design that's akin to Medium, but dirty. Given two words, on the count of three you and another player yell these words at one another in the order you think best: "Spank Daddy" or "Daddy Spank"? Do this successfully, and you now do the same with three words. I assume scoring happens at some point, but honestly you know that's secondary.

Front cover of Bounce It and components: stacks of scoring chips, four balls to bounce, and a cup in the box

▪️ Christoph Cantzler's Bounce It, due out in June 2026 from 999 Games, is the most straightforward title here: Bounce balls to score goals, and as long as you keep scoring, your points keep increasing. Stop before you miss, or else you'll end up with nothing.
