ABOUT W. ERIC MARTIN
Eric has been writing for a living since 1997. He started out as a freelance writer for magazines and clients on a variety of topics, including board game-related pieces for Discover, Chili Pepper magazine, Sheep! magazine, and more.
In 2006, he began writing about board and card games full-time, including 15 years as the news editor at BoardGameGeek. In February 2026, he and his groovy wife Linda launched Board Game Beat, which publishes news, game announcements, and analysis of the tabletop game industry.
Eric has co-authored three books: The Infinite Board Game, which covered the piecepack game system; Tools of Timekeeping: A Kid's Guide to the History & Science of Telling Time, and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Starting and Running a Coffee Bar.
He has appeared as an expert in various news outlets and in two documentaries about board games — Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story and Going Cardboard: A Board Game Documentary — in addition to editing rulebooks for Cocktail Games, Queen Games, Face 2 Face Games, and other publishers.
